Bolton, Portsmouth to pounce for Newcastle's Barton

Premiership rivals are ready to pounce for Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton.

The Daily Mail says if Newcastle are successful in sacking Barton, the Liverpool-born midfielder, who cost the club £5.8 million from City two years ago, would be allowed to leave as a free agent and that would make him attractive to some clubs.

Bolton and Portsmouth have shown interest in the 26-year-old previously and Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce signed him for Newcastle and may feel he is one of the few managers in the Barclays Premier League who can handle such a volatile character.
