Bologna assistant Emilio De Leo says the players let down coach Sinisa Mihajlovic after last night's thrashing by Udinese.
Bologna were hammered 4-0 with De Leo and fellow No 2 Miroslav Tanjga taking charge.
“We never make excuses, we're sorry for the fans," he said after the game.
“We apologise to them. They travelled so many kilometres and expected a different evening.
“We wanted to follow up on our performance in Naples. I believe that continuity would've been useful for us.
“The coach picks his XI based on the lads' dedication. Tonight, those who have worked admirably hard throughout the season played.
“They deserved these minutes. Everyone could've done more, that's obvious. For better or worse, this team must take responsibility and be cohesive."
Their performance was seen by the Serb, who was recently discharged from hospital after another round of cancer treatment completed.
“We heard Sinisa during the game. He's always combative and critical. He expected a different performance and he's certainly not happy.
“We know we must get rid of this waste right away. Maybe it can give us a further shock for the match against Milan."
