San Jose Earthquakes have confirmed that Andreas Gorlitz has undergone surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The 32-year old German defender, who only joined the Quakes from FC Ingolstadt in March, sustained the injury in Wednesday's 0-0 draw with the Colorado Rapids and will now be sidlined for the remainder of the 2014 MLS season.
Former 1860 Munich and Bayern Munich right-back Gorlitz managed just three appearances for San Jose before being cut down by the serious injury.
