Blackpool striker DJ Campbell admits the stroke suffered by youth coach Gary Parkinson hit the players hard prior to victory at Newcastle United.
During the match Charlie Adam and Campbell showed shirts declaring '4 Parky'. Adam grabbed his from a team-mate by the dug-out after his penalty, while Campbell earned a last minute booking for pulling off his shirt to reveal his tribute when celebrating the breakaway second goal.
"Friday was tough," Campbell admitted. "A lot of lads, especially the younger ones, were crying. The dressing room was very subdued before the game but we did our jobs as professionals and the older lads supported them but it wasn't easy for ourselves either.
"I can't remember ever going into a game in circumstances like that, and that kind of pressure of someone we love being unwell. It is not a nice feeling.
"When you think about his family and his kids you just want to do well for them. Maybe that was a part of us doing well here.
"The T-shirt was a show of respect and love to someone who Blackpool loves and who loves Blackpool."
