Blackburn youth chief Cannon: Next group best we have seen

Blackburn Rovers youth chief Phil Cannon says the club's production line is only about to get stronger.

Phil Jones, Junior Hoilett and Grant Hanley have all progressed from the academy to feature for Rovers' first team over the past 12 months and Cannon insists the new generation have an opportunity to follow in their footsteps.

Cannon told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I've seen a lot of hard luck stories, generally because players haven't been given the chance to impress.

"There can't be any hard luck stories here, because we've got a manager who is willing to give young players that opportunity.

"It's up to the lads to make the most of the fantastic opportunity.

"They're a really good bunch - probably the strongest we've had in a few years, so all credit to the recruitment department staff who have worked extremely hard over the past 12 months."
