Blackburn legend Hendry: Club needs new cashed up owners

Blackburn Rovers legend Colin Hendry says the club needs to come under new control if they're to remain in the Premiership.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce's efforts to bolster his squad this summer have been increasingly frustrated by the availability of limited funds, with no new signings yet arrived at Ewood Park.

Hendry believes this will continue to be the situation until new funds are invested and admits Allardyce can't be expected to always produce miracles in the 'money-mad' Premier League.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "To continue to survive they are going to need more money. The reality is now the more money you have the more success you have.

"At the moment Sam Allardyce has to wheel and deal for players a lot of people would never have heard of. He has done it very well but you fear one mistake could prove very bad news.

"There is no soft landing at the minute. If a bad signing is made, or players lose form and confidence, then where are the funds to make a couple of signings in January? They aren't there.

"I don't think anyone is unrealistic to expect the glory days of the past to return. Manchester City will still have the monopoly but what new investment would mean is Rovers would steal a march on a lot of their rivals.

"Perhaps they would not be able to buy their first choice targets but they would get their second choice. You can understand people are concerned about any sort of change but there is no doubt it is needed."
