Blackburn, Everton first to go for Newcastle defender Taylor

Blackburn Rovers are interested in Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor.

The Mirror says Taylor was put up for sale by Newcastle yesterday after turning down a 45k a week four-year deal - as his contract wrangle with the club reached boiling point.

Everton and Blackburn have been alerted after former England U21 star Taylor found out through a third party that United want to sell him.

The £4 million rated defender has been in talks over a new deal for months with his current contract ending in June.

The atmosphere between player, his agents and MD Derek Llambias hit breaking point yesterday after it was leaked that Taylor would not be getting a new contract and was being sold.
