Blackburn boss Lambert needs West Ham Cup upset

Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Lambert is targeting an FA Cup upset against West Ham.

Lambert wants the Venky's – who have owned Rovers since 2010 – to finance a push for the Premier League next season.

He said: “I think it would, depending on how far we go and what happens, although I don't think anyone could ever knock the owners for what they've done.

“The money they have put into the club has been astronomical really. It's a brilliant club, it's just come off the rails a little bit as everyone knows. But coming out of the embargo is a huge thing for this club.

“It must have been hard for people here under that embargo. When you can't go and compete and you can't spend, then your ambition becomes just trying to stay in the league – and that's no good.

“I have always said for this club, the big thing is the next window. You would be looking to spend money in the summer.

“You've got to watch that you don't go back into an embargo, which is important. But if you have any aspirations, you've got to be given a chance to try to get out of the division. The next big question is whether we want to go for it."
