Birmingham City are waiting on news of Eljero Elia's move to Liverpool.
Should the Reds clinch a deal for the Hamburg winger, Ryan Babel will be allowed to move to St Andrew's.
Birmingham had a loan offer rejected by Liverpool last week, but manager Alex McLeish remains keen on the Dutchman.
Babel has also been linked with high-flying Tottenham and Arsenal this season.
