Birmingham chief scout Montgomery flattered by Chelsea interest

Paul Montgomery is committed to his job at Birmingham City.

The Brum chief scout has been linked with Chelsea as a replacement for their outgoing football director Frank Arnesen.

Montgomery, who has worked for Jim Smith at Derby County, Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle United and was once courted by Barcelona, said he had been taken aback by the development.

"It's flattering that a club like Chelsea seems to have noticed my work," the 57-year-old Geordie told the Birmingham Mail.

"However, I came to do a job at Birmingham with a manager I respect and like as a person - and I would like to finish what I have only just started.

"We are looking to build up a recruitment network here that will improve things for Birmingham.

"A lot of hard work has already gone in, and there is plenty still to be done."
