Birmingham boss McLeish wants McFadden to play to strengths

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish wants James McFadden to play to his strengths.

Eck handed Faddy a rare chance up front during Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Fulham.

But he's adamant the 26-year-old is more suited to a withdrawn role or out on the wing where his creativity can cause havoc.

The former Scotland manager said: "James would prefer to play up front. He thinks he is a centre-forward but he doesn't get enough goals to be an out-and-out striker.

"However, he can bring people into play. He has that quality and I have said before he is a scorer of great goals as opposed to being a great goalscorer."
