Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish sees "great potential" in new signing Christian Benitez.

"Christian has great potential, he's small but powerful," he said.

"The success of the Spanish in the last year tells you that smaller, technical players can succeed at the top level.

"He's a young, hungry and confident player and I'm looking forward to working with him."

As for ex-Coventry defender Scott Dann, McLeish said he liked not only his game but his attitude.

"Scott is another young player who wants to be the best," said the manager.

"It makes it easier for a manager when he can work with players who are already motivated and he certainly fits this category. It will be exciting for me to build a team from the foundation of vibrant players who want to win - I've been brought up on that ethos."
