Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is chasing Sheffield United wing-back Gary Naysmith.
The left back was a mainstay of McLeish's Scotland side and he is keen to bolster his defence. But Sheffield United only signed 29-year-old Naysmith for £1million from Everton in July and boss Bryan Robson does not want to let him leave.
