Birmingham City and manager Alex McLeish have yet to come to a contract agreement it has been revealed.
The Scottish tactician has been in talks with the Blues about a contract extension for some time but things have stalled because he wants too much money.
Birmingham vice-chairman Peter Pannu confirmed that McLeish had asked for a figure that the club could not agree to at this stage.
"I have been in talks with his representative and he was asking for a very large amount of money which I was not prepared to meet," Pannu said.
"He has not been tried and tested yet. The club was relegated, then promoted and last year we stayed up, so he has done well.
"But to suggest that he is in the top class like a Mourinho, well, he is no Mourinho yet. The ball is in his court."
McLeish is reportedly on £750,000 at the moment but wants his deal bumped up to a £1million a year.
