Bilic: West Ham need result to help confidence

Slaven Bilic insists his West Ham United side are in desperate need of a confidence-boosting victory.

The Hammers were beaten 3-0 by Southampton at the London Stadium on Sunday, making it five losses from their opening six Premier League fixtures so far this season.

The result has the East London club sitting third bottom on the table and in dire need of a win according to the manager.

"We are not the first or the last team who has been in this situation in the Premier League and most of it is about confidence, but the Club has the same players and the same manager who did good things last year," said Bilic.

"Eighty per cent of the team is the same, and of course we can talk about confidence and urge them to be confident, but you need one or two good results to get that confidence and that's not happening at the moment.

"We are working hard in training, analysing and talking and it's good until the game comes and someone punches us in the face, then we have a problem."

Charlie Austin, Dusan Tadic and James Ward-Prowse all found the back of the net for the Saints in what was West Ham's fourth straight league defeat.
