Big Sam snaps at reporter in West Brom unveiling

New West Brom manager Sam Allardyce could not resist a dig at a reporter during his first news conference.

The experienced English manager, who is affectionately called "Big Sam" is back in the league.

West Brom hope he can get them away from the relegation zone in their first season back in the top flight.

There is a suggestion his contract has a break clause at the end of the season, if they wish to part ways.

West Brom chief Luke Dowling was asked about that clause.

"It has nothing to do with," Allardyce interrupted before Dowling had the chance to answer.

"What is in the contract is private and confidential. Get on with the football."

"Yes, completely," he continued when asked if he was being serious.

He then added: "What we have got to do is manage our way through this spell, over Christmas and New Year, and the pandemic, and me giving the opportunity to the players to win as many games as possible as quickly as I can.

"At Sunderland it worked early on, and then we had a dip. At Palace, I didn't win in the first six and they were asking whether I was the right man.

"What I hope for is the stimulation of a new manager which can lift the team. You want the players to say 'I have to play my best because I want the new manager to pick me'.

"Hopefully they can do that on Sunday, that'd be fantastic.

He finished: "I've never been so refreshed and ready to come back. It's been nearly three years away.

"It can wear you down sometimes, it can take lots out of you. You realise that when I had a break. I'm pent up with energy and I'm ready to take that into this job."
