Big Ron happy Bruce staying Aston Villa manager

Former Aston Villa boss Ron Atkinson is happy to see Steve Bruce keep hold of the manager's job.

Bruce was given the green light to carry on following a face-to-face meeting with the club's new majority owners which resulted in Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris offering him their full support.

That decision instantly ended intense speculation that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry would replace Bruce in the hot seat.

Big Ron told the Daily Star: “I have full confidence in Steve, providing there's a solid state of affairs and it's not, 'let's give it a go until November' or something like that.

“You don't want that. And without a shadow of doubt, he's the man for the job. At the time he got the job I said that and I see little or no reason at all to change my thinking.

“I think Steve has deserved another crack at it, definitely. He was a little unlucky last season not to go all the way.

“I don't say it's make or break for him but I think he's realistic enough to know it's more or less now or never.

“You are not going to be given five years to get Villa back up but if they keep the players they want and don't have to get rid, that would help them."
