Berlusconi explained: "Ronaldinho? He's never really been our goal, because we felt that in the current system, Milan would not be capable of adjusting to the arrival of a player of those characteristics.

"Furthermore, we have extraordinary players, such as Kaka and Alexandre Pato, who frankly would have difficulty playing with Ronaldinho."

Asked about Genoa's on-loan Milan striker Marco Borriello, Berlusconi added: "If we knew that Ronaldo was going to get injured, then Borriello would never have been allowed to leave - or we would have signed a third striker. But hindsight is a beautiful thing."
