Former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has jumped to the defence of manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is underfire over the way Spurs were dumped out of the Champions League by RB Leipzig this week.

But Berbatov told Betfair: "It is true that they were totally outplayed. For me, as a Spurs fan, it was difficult to see this, but, from that to ask for other things. Do some really want to kick out Mourinho? Are they kidding? After only four months?

"I still have a lot of faith in him and I think as the head coach he deserves a full season to adjust his methods and apply his philosophy. Give Mourinho next season."
