Christian Benteke is fighting to rescue his career at Crystal Palace.

The Daily Mail says the Belgium international hasn't scored this term and has notched just twice in 2018 as he struggles to justify his £27million price tag.

Benteke missed Saturday's victory over Huddersfield with a knee injury with summer signing Jordan Ayew taking his place in the starting XI.

Manager Roy Hodgson was impressed with Ayew's contribution against David Wagner's side and is likely to persist with the Ghana forward for this weekend's clash against Newcastle even if Benteke proves his fitness.

An injury that disrupted Benteke's pre-season is understood to have impacted on the forward's fitness going into the current campaign.
