Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has urged Leicester City midfielder James Maddison to reject a move to Newcastle United.
Newcastle have made a club record offer for the playmaker.
But Bent told talkSPORT: “I don't think £50million will get him.
“I mean, that would be cheap. I think they'll (Newcastle) have to go a little bit higher than that.
“You're talking about a guy last season who was outstanding. The fact he wasn't in Gareth Southgate's squad - or hasn't been - is still surprising. He had his best ever Premier League season last year, (with) 12 goals and eight assists… superb. I can understand why Newcastle are going in for that type of player.
“I won't call it a backward step, I'd probably say sideways because Newcastle seem to be a team that are on the up and Leicester finished eighth.
“I think, maybe, at this present time, two squads, it is a backward step going to Newcastle because Leicester are a better team."
