Bent calls for Sunderland improvement

Sunderland striker Darren Bent has called for vast improvement on the pitch to keep the club aloft in the Premier League.

The Black Cats have not saluted in their past 12 matches and Bent is aware that if a victory is not recorded soon, then things could get drastic.

Bent, whose form has suffered slightly as the team has played poorly, thinks it is now time to really work and get rid of any errors that have crept into the side.

"We have to address certain issues on the pitch. We are far too open at the moment and not defending well as a team. If we want to push on up the league we have to defend well as a team. It is not just defenders, it is midfielders and attackers communicating together," he said.

"It is crunch time. We have to eradicate mistakes. We have to roll our sleeves up ,dig in and push on. We have Kieran Richardson out, Anton Ferdinand out. Andy Reid is out and Jordan Henderson, who has been one of our best players, is also out.

"It is hard. We have to dig in and grind out results. We have enough players to get something from the next game.

"Everyone has to stay positive and keep the faith."
