Bent backs Bruce approach during Sunderland slump

Sunderland striker Darren Bent insists Steve Bruce's man-management is spot on.

Bent reckons the way he has handled himself during the slump - taking the pressure on his own shoulders rather than blaming the players for the problems - is a mark of a man who the squad are desperate to succeed under.

"The criticism of the manager is unjustified. I suppose it shows how quickly things turn these days," he told The Journal. "At the start of the season we were playing really well and battering teams and people were talking about him as a possible England manager. Now all of a sudden, a few bad results and he should get the chop. It's ridiculous.

"I can speak for every single player and everyone associated with the club when I say we are 100% behind the manager.

"We're all playing for him and we're all fully committed to working under him. He's a great man-manager, that is one of his strengths.

"I have played under managers where it's not really worked out and they are not good people. This manager is a good person. He is loyal to his players and it makes you want to work for him even more."
