Benevento coach Inzaghi: We showed courage despite AC Milan setback

Benevento coach Pippo Inzaghi was disappointed with the manner of defeat at former club AC Milan.

Inzaghi was back at the San Siro for the reverse and left frustrated.

He said, “We conceded an early goal and so had to open up a bit more. If you come to San Siro and park the bus, you will concede sooner or later.

“A team that needs to save itself has to show courage, so even if we allowed a few counter-attacks, I'd prefer that to showing fear. In the end, there were 20 shots to 14, so that showed the spirit we had here as a newly-promoted club.

“My main regret is the second goal, as our defenders weren't lined up properly and we had worked on that. The first goal was a well-worked move.

“I knew Iago Falque could only really play one half, so I hoped this risk would also get minutes in his legs for the next game. Gianluca Caprari wasn't fit to start either, so we tried a 4-2-3-1.

“We started this journey last season, now we want to finish it by securing our Serie A status and I believe this squad has what it takes to stay in the top flight."

He added: "The game with Milan will never be the same as any other, but coming here without the fans is a different atmosphere."
