Benevento coach Inzaghi confident not being sucked into relegation battle

Benevento coach Pippo Inzaghi insists they can beat the drop after defeat to Sassuolo.

Benevento lost 1-0 at home to Sassuolo on Monday night.

"When the goalkeeper is the man of the match, it means the team gave everything. Consigli always puts in great performances when he plays against us," Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“Even Inter defended deep against Sassuolo, but it's a pity we conceded that goal. Boga went all the way down and didn't even dribble past our defenders, it was too easy for him," the former striker added.

“It's all in our hands now. We are eight points above the relegation zone, and it all depends on us. We have surprised everyone, but we need another seven or eight points to gain survival.

“The points are essential at this point. We've never been among the last three in the table, we wanted to score at all costs today, and maybe we deserved to pick up a draw. We could have avoided conceding that goal.

“Some players are recovering their best form, Letizia has returned to action. Right now, we have two different systems, and we have achieved great results with both," the coach continued.

“However, you don't win games with a system, but with the right attitude.

“I am proud to have made my President and the director happy, we are close to the target, but the job is not done yet.

“I am not thinking about the contract extension. There are more important things than this. It's a pity our fans can't follow us. I hope they can return soon to enjoy what we are doing."
