David Beckham urged former Manchester United teammate Steve Bruce to take the Newcastle United job.

Bruce decided quickly he wanted the job — and his former Manchester United team-mate endorsed it.

Asked if any friends told him to take the post, Bruce said: “Yeah, tonnes of them.

“I don't want to mention names but David Beckham was one of them.

"I'll have to show my daughter that text."
