Beardsley backing Newcastle youngster Carroll for big England career

Newcastle United coach Peter Beardsley sees Andy Carroll as a future England star.

Beardsley, who represented England at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, said Carroll had the talent to lead this country's strike force for years to come after watching him score a terrific hat-trick in the 6-0 drubbing of Aston Villa lat Sunday.

"It would be incredible and from what we've seen so far you wouldn't bet against it and I think he's been outstanding," said the former Newcastle, Liverpool and Everton midfielder.

"We brought him in as a schoolboy as a left-back and Kenny Wharton converted him to a centre-forward. It's been incredible, the rise and rise of his stock."
