Manuel Neuer has made it clear that he never had any intention of joining Manchester United.
The Bayern Munich goalkeeper was a target for the Red Devils in 2010 after he produced a fine display for Schalke in their Champions League loss to Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
A year later, Neuer signed with Bavarian giants Bayern and has revealed that although he was humbled to be linked with Ferguson and United, he was never thinking about going to Old Trafford.
"It was an honour for Sir Alex to say that about me even though we lost both games," Neuer said.
"It wasn't an option coming here (to Manchester) though because I wanted to join Bayern."
Neuer and Bayern come up against United in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Old Trafford tomorrow night.
