Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago out of Man Utd clash

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara is out of their Champions League tie with Manchester United.

The Spain international was taken off after 25 minutes of the 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim and taken to hospital where initial tests suggest a partial tear of the interior cruciate ligament.

"The first diagnosis for Thiago is a suspected partial tear of the ligament," Bayern said in a statement. "He will most likely miss both quarter-final legs against Manchester United."

Coach Pep Guardiola told reporters: "Thiago Alcantara will be out for about a month most likely. That is really bad news. We will miss him."
