Bayern Munich chief Rummenigge moves to ease tension with upset Wenger

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists he doesn't want to fall out with Arsene Wenger.

Bayern and Rummenigge have shut down talk of hiring the former Arsenal manager as their next head coach, this despite contradictory statements from the Frenchman.

It's understood Bayern's reaction has upset Wenger, particularly with the manner of leaks reaching the German press.

And he reacted yesterday: "I wish Bayern all the best. They are just at a turning point because (president Uli) Hoeness, a key figure in this club, will leave. Rummenigge will go in a year. It seems that the future is uncertain.

"This club, which has always been managed discretely and directly, is currently very vulnerable to rumours coming from everywhere. Personally, I wish Bayern good luck. For me, the situation is clear."

In response, Rummenigge admits he's eager to mend some bridges.

He explained: "I have tremendous respect for Arsene and I have known him for 30 years.

"I have no problem with him and we need to talk together in the near future to get things right. I'm not interested in stressing him out."
