Bassala Sambou thrilled to get off the mark for Everton

Former Coventry City whizkid Bassala Sambou is off the mark for Everton.

Sambou says he was delighted to net his first goal in an Everton shirt after helping the Club's Under-23s reach the Liverpool Senior Cup final.

He converted Antony Evans' centre from close-range as the young Blues recorded a comfortable 4-0 semi-final victory over Skelmersdale United.

“I'm very happy," he told evertonfc.com. “It was a difficult game at times but I am really pleased to get on the scoresheet and get off the mark for Everton, hopefully it's the first of many for me.

“It's still pre-season so everyone is still building up fitness. It's tough but I got through another 45 minutes and feel better for it. It's just a case of getting more game time under my belt now.

“Winning gives everyone confidence and we're focused on building some momentum now in time for the start of the competitive season. After this win, we're in another final as well so there's the motivation of winning another trophy [after the SuperCupNI success earlier this month].

“I've been here for a few weeks now and everyone has been great - I couldn't have wished for a better group of lads because they've been so welcoming and made me feel part of the group from day one. I'm really enjoying myself here."
