Barry warns Man City that media attention will always be there

Gareth Barry says Manchester City will have to get used to being the centre of attention if they intend to be a successful club. Not for the first time this season, the Blues found themselves plastered all over the back pages last week following an alleged bust-up between manager Roberto Mancini and forward Craig Bellamy.

But rather than calling on the media to lay off his team-mates, Barry accepts the increased scrutiny that comes with being a big club with even bigger ambitions.

"As a club we are in transition," said the England star. "We have spent a lot of money and we are looking to reach the top.

"But these things come with it. It was not even a row but it made the headlines.

"We come into training, looking to work hard. We see a headline and wonder why it is there. But all the top clubs have had it over the years."

"They are both strong and opinionated and they are both winners," said Barry. "That is good for the club.

"We are working hard on the training pitch and all the players are right behind the manager."
