Manchester United have invited Barnsley defender Mason Holgate on trial in a bid to curb interest from rival clubs Aston Villa and Swansea City.
Holgate will train with the Manchester club until Friday under coaches Warren Joyce and Nicky Butt, after the young player rejected a contract renewal with Barnsley on Monday.
Villa have made a £1million bid for the 18-year-old, who made 22 League One appearances and scored one goal during his debut campaign for the Tykes last season.
Swansea have also shown interest in the versatile player who joined South Yorkshire outfit Barnsley when he was nine years old.
Arsenal and Tottenham have also expressed their desire to sign Holgate, who would reportedly either like to sign with United and go on loan with a Championship club rather than further his development at Barnsley.
