Everton midfielder Joe Williams is wanted in a permanent deal by Barnsley.

The Liverpool Echo says the Championship side have lodged an offer worth in the region of £1million for the 21-year-old.

Williams joined the Tykes on a season-long loan in July and has impressed at Oakwell.

Now Barnsley want to turn his loan into a long-term deal and have made their move early in the January transfer window.

Huyton-born Williams has stood out since making the move and has made 28 appearances.
