Oldham Athletic boss Lee Johnson is set to join Barnsley.
BBC Radio Sheffield says it is understood that the two clubs are close to agreeing a compensation deal for the 33-year-old.
Johnson saw the Tykes beat Scunthorpe 1-0 in Tuesday's League One game.
The Oakwell side have been without a manager since sacking Danny Wilson on 12 February.
