Former Switzerland striker Tranquillo Barnetta is delighted for Xherdan Shaqiri over his impact at Liverpool.

Barnetta feels Anfield is the ideal place for the Swiss.

He told Omnisport: "I think a lot of people thought: 'What is he doing at Liverpool after his period with Stoke?', but he did not respond and played some great matches. I think he has silenced all outsiders now.

"He (Jurgen Klopp) is a very good motivator and he lives for football, so I think that he can also get that last per cent from a player. I think Shaqiri needed that because the talent was always there. He just could not always express that on the field.

"In the past few months, he has really shown what he can do. It is always important to have a coach that helps you and that gives you confidence. It was also important that he was not immediately thrown in front of the lions, he came from the bench and got a few minutes. Many people therefore also said: 'What is he doing here?', but that was well done by Klopp. He has got the time to adjust and to see how it all works. Anfield is special, it is not like any other stadium or any other club."
