Barnet hope to compete with Arsenal for youth talent with new Hive complex

Barnet believe they can compete with Arsenal for the region's best young talent after opening a new £11 million training complex.

The Hive, which England coach Fabio Capello opened in North London alongside Sir Trevor Brooking, has cost about £11million so far and looks more like something you would associate with a Premier League side than a League Two club.

The academy has 12 pitches (10 grass and two artificial), 14 changing rooms and a top-class physio room among other facilities across its 350 acres and there's more to come.

The club's ambitious chairman Anthony Kleanthous, who raised the money with help from Harrow Council and the Football Foundation, plans to add a swimming pool and a restaurant to the complex, which is also open to the public.

But the main aim is to get bright, young local talent into a club who have to compete with the same catchment area as Barclays Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Tottenham.
