Ross Barkley is back in preseason training at Chelsea.

The Daily Mail says Barkley has returned to Chelsea training after a year away on loan at Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old was loaned out by then manager Frank Lampard and during his loan spell he scored three goals in 24 appearances.

Barkley was back in Cobham on Tuesday, as Thomas Tuchel's side build up to a season where they hope to challenge Manchester City for the title.

In his absence, Tuchel replaced Lampard and won the club's second Champions League trophy with a 1-0 final victory over Manchester City.

Therefore it was Barkley's first training session under Tuchel as he hopes to impress the German on his return to the club.

The midfielder had a mixed spell at Aston Villa during his year-loan spell at the West Midlands club.
