Leo Messi was on target for Barcelona in last night's 1-0 friendly victory at Bayern Munich.

It was Messi's first appearance for Barca since the end of last season and he was delighted to mark his return with a goal: "I'm happy with the goal, but it's up to you [the media] how you describe me.

"All I'm trying to do is my best for the team. It doesn't matter who scores.

"Nobody has a guaranteed place in the starting team. We're all making the effort to be able to play. I have teammates of the highest level here and everyone is working towards being at peak condition for the start of the season on the 25th."

He added: "It was good to see [Gabi] Milito make his debut, just as it was to see Marquez play. It's been good in the last week because everyone is together again after some of us were not involved in the Asian tour."
