Barcelona youth chief Bakero: We want more English kids after McGuane

Barcelona have warned Premier League clubs they're planning more raids on their youth academies.

Former Arsenal junior Marcus McGuane made his Barca debut in the Catalan Super Cup triumph over Espanyol this week.

Jose Mari Bakero, Barca's head of professional youth football, said England's international success at youth level last summer has resonated across the continent. England lifted the Under 17 World Cup by beating Spain 5-2 in the final, and also won trophies at Under 19 and Under 20 levels.

Bakero said: "You may see more young English players leaving the country. There is so much talent there, some are seeing that there is little prospect of a big future in a first team.

"For Barcelona, it was not a big surprise England won the U17 World Cup. It is a reflection of the improvement in youth coaching. We have scouts working in England. Now we have a bank of information about kids that are 14, 15, 16 years old."
