Barcelona worried about Ilaix contract demands

Barcelona enter new contract talks with Ilaix Moriba concerned about his demands.

Marca says the 18-year-old midfielder's current contract runs to 2022. Barcelona want to keep him and the teenager has expressed a desire to stay as well, but the demands of his representatives are significant. Considering the Blaugrana's tough financial situation, they could be hard to meet.

Barcelona are taking comfort from the fact that the talks have only just started. They'll keep negotiating and Barcelona hope that Ilaix understands the club's situation and the fact that he is just developing, having only made his first-team debut in January.

The club would like to renew Ilaix for four more seasons and the length of the proposed new contract isn't a problem from the player's side. The problem is the amount of money they're seeking in wages.

Barcelona believe they're asking for too much, while the player's representatives think they have leverage because of the possible interest of other clubs. Some of those are English clubs, who do have more financial muscle.
