Barcelona have left themselves vulnerable to losing Memphis Depay after a contract oversight, it has been revealed.
Depay joined Barca this summer in a Bosman transfer from Olympique Lyon.
Mundo Deportivo, via Voetbalzone, says while the decision to give Depay only a two-year contract came as a surprise, a further concern is that consideration of a clause to unilaterally extend the deal was considered, but then rejected.
Depay's current deal only runs to 2023. For the moment, Barca's management have been tightlipped about why the Dutchman only penned a two-year contract and also why no option was included to extend the deal.
So far this season, the striker has been outstanding, scoring twice in five games. In a young team, Depay has quickly established himself as a senior leader inside the La Masia locker room and is proving a big hit with the Blaugrana support.
