Barcelona are upbeat over their pursuit of Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Sport says a few weeks ago Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars said they would not negotiate the Dutch midfielder's exit this summer, but now there are signs a deal could be possible. Barça believe an increased offer could now tempt Ajax.

Barça believe a deal could be possible for around €50m. However, the player will also need to put pressure on for the transfer to go through, without damaging the excellent relationship the Catalan club have with Ajax.

Pep Segura and former sporting director Robert Fernandez opened talks months ago. Now, Eric Abidal and Ramon Planes have taken up the negotiations.
