Barcelona star Messi hits back at World Cup critics

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has spoken of his frustration over Argentina's World Cup final defeat.

Messi took aim at his critics, who have lambasted him for poor performances in the final and semifinals for Argentina.

"If I had scored in the final, people would have said I'd had a spectacular World Cup, that I was outstanding in every game", he told Olé. "I would have liked to have played better in the semi-final and final.

"But that's how it went. ...I didn't find the back of the net and was criticised for those two games. I don't think they went that badly either. I get criticised so much that nothing surprises me now. It's par for the course, I would even say normal.

"While the memory of not managing to win the final is still there, we've put the World Cup in Brazil behind us. This is the start of a new era. Let's not forget how much we also enjoyed our time there."
