Frenkie de Jong admits he was worried his move to Barcelona would fall through.
"Barcelona were always interested in me and, in truth, they were always my preference," he said.
"But the conversations became difficult and I was, more and more, getting the feeling that it was not the time to move to the club.
De Jong assured that the financial side of the deal was not fundamental in the decision he made.
"Barcelona came with what I wanted, and no, it had nothing to do with money.
"When I speak, I talk about football, it's what I've done with all the clubs interested in me.
"Barcelona had a plan for me, they told me how they saw my future and expressed their expectations that I could become an important player here. For me that was the important thing."
