Barcelona rethinking move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves

Barcelona are rethinking a move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

The Catalan club were keen to loan the Portuguese star in January, with a €50million (£43m) obligatory clause to buy at the end of the season.

The plan was part of a long-term strategy to replace 34-year-old defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets, but it is believed the Spanish giants are now holding back on the deal.

While the move would be possible financially, Xavi fears the Wolves star would not suit his tactical set-up on the pitch, says Sport.

The manager is not convinced Neves holds the correct profile to replace Busquets at the base of midfield.

The Barcelona and Spain legend is the club's second-longest serving active player behind Gerard Pique, having starred at the Nou Camp for almost 14 years.
