Mundo Deportivo says the breakdown in negotiations is definitive for the time being.

Although the two clubs were close to reaching an agreement, Barcelona couldn't find a way to acquire the Spaniard's services.

The Blaugrana contemplated signing Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP and immediately loaning him out to Valencia in exchange for Rodrigo.

However, Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with the Portuguese side for the midfielder's signing.

Barcelona will now try to sign another forward to fill the void left by Luis Suarez, who will miss the rest of the season due to an injury.
