Barcelona presidential candidate Laporta has Man City striker Aguero on shopping list

Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has declared he intends to bring Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero back to Spain this summer.

The Catalan giants hold their election, open to 110,000 club members, on Sunday to a backdrop of turmoil after the arrest of former incumbent Josep Maria Bartomeu earlier this week.

The Daily Mail says former president Laporta, at the helm when Pep Guardiola was appointed manager in 2008, knows the need for financial prudence.

City's record goalscorer Aguero is out of contract in the summer and available for free, with the 32-year-old yet to discuss an extension at the Etihad.

Like his friend and City target Lionel Messi, Aguero has said he will wait until the end of the season to decide on his future.

And it's claimed Laporta has earmarked Aguero as a potential statement arrival this summer.
