Barcelona president wants boardroom resignations

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has called on several members of the Spanish champions' board to resign as part of plans to reshape the clubs' hierarchy, according to Spanish media, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

The Spanish press report that Bartomeu, who will complete his second and final term in 2021, is looking to restructure the number of directors at boardroom level and form a team that will focus on the immediate future of the club, rather than prioritising the long term goals.

Among the names said to be potentially facing the axe is institutional vice president Emili Rousaud, who was only appointed at the turn of the year, though there are also suggestions his position could be downgraded. Rousaud had been touted as Bartomeu's successor.

Another of Barca's vice presidents and treasurer, Enrique Tombas, could also reportedly depart. Additionally, Silvio Elias, who oversees the youth setup, and Josep Pont, responsible for the commercial side of the club, are apparently in the firing line.

The news also seems to rule out Rousaud as Bartomeu's heir apparent, with reports suggesting that Jordi Moix and Jordi Cardoner, both on the Barca board, are the new favourites for the presidency.
