Barcelona president Laporta admits Zahavi key to Lewandowski deal; explains taking No9 from Depay

Barcelona president Joan Laporta says agent Pini Zahavi was key to the signing of Robert Lewandowski.

The former Bayern Munich striker's presentation was held today at the Nou Camp.

Laporta said: "If a genius comes and asks us for three wishes, we ask that he be a goalscorer, that he had won the Golden Boot and have a goal guarantee. I have a very special personal relationship with his agent and he was the one I told if there was a possibility and when he's the player I would like.

"We got in touch with Bayern. Mateu (Alemany) has spoken with the technical secretary and those responsible for the club. He has met in various places. When Bayern was predisposed, it was already a matter of negotiating the amounts. They worked on the issue and when the agreement was reached there were conversations by video call and Robert.

"I was wondering if we could register him. In the case of registering one, he would be the first. It was conceived in this way. There were other clubs that offered more money and another chip to which we give. The player understands the situation we are experiencing and he has kept his promise to come despite the offers he had from other clubs. Robert and Zahavi have had the illusion for him to come to Barça."

Laporta also discussed Memphis Depay giving up the No9 shirt to Lewandowski.

He stated: "It is a club decision for reasons that interest the club, image, advertising and it has been done. Memphis has understood it."
